My name is Joel Portman. I work as a Contract Negotiator/Network Development Specialist for Centene Corporation, developing new Medicaid health plans. I am a board member of the Global Diversity and Inclusion Foundation and volunteer with a number of other community organizations. I graduated from the University of Denver in 2011, completing a Master of Business Administration degree as part a dual degree program with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies.
I am an innovator, a collaborator, a friend, a learner, an educator, a thinker, a change agent – and much more. I am a network builder, a diversity and inclusion advocate, a social media enthusiast and a lover of friends, family, the outdoors, travel, and learning.
I have experience working in the healthcare, education, diversity/inclusion, retail, and non-profit industries with organizations ranging in size from five people to Fortune 500.
Ever interested in continuous learning and engaging with others, I subscribe (or have recently subscribed) to Fast Company, Fortune, The Economist, Time, BusinessWeek, Inc., and Entertainment Weekly (for a little fun). I also regularly read articles from Harvard Business Review and McKinsey Quarterly, Center on Foreign Relations, and Foreign Affairs. I follow blogs such as those by Ezra Klein, Nick Kristoff, and Mashable. Further, I regularly use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, and Instagram. I also use Google+, Flickr, Stumbleupon, and others, but don’t find them to be incredible relevant.
I have developed workshops, training sessions, and presentations on diversity, inclusion, and leadership that have been delivered to national conferences and to colleges/universities across Colorado and which have been adapted by institutions throughout the Midwest. I have additional experience in consulting, project/program management, non-profit management, fundraising, organizational development, international franchising, business operations, and marketing.
